Girls Individual Rankings

Final End of Season Rankings (Posted 11/14/24)

The season is over, except for Nike and Footlocker regional.  These are our final rankings, based on State Meet and New England Championship finishes.

Week 7 Rankings (Posted 10/31/24)

The favorites were all victorious theis weekend.  In the South, Samantha Moore rose to the occasion in Class A, pulling away early and widening the gap throughout the race. Behind her, Driscoll ran a smart race, staying in the chase pack and closing well to take second.  Zoe Carroll won a gritty race winning class B over Olivia Wentworth who returned to action for the first time in four weeks.  In class C, Stark-Chessa defended last year's regional title, but Karen Higgins had a strong run for second place and moved up as a result. Up North, the Hampden duo of Elliott and Plant had their typical 1-2 finish in Class A. Amelia Van Dongen won her fourth regional title in class B, and her teammate Rebecca Rand also had a strong run.  In class C, Houlton swept the top 2 positions, with Ewings winning as expected.

Week 4 Rankings (Posted 10/10/24)

Like the boys race, we had an out-of-stater take the individual win at the Festival of Champions last weekend.  Nevertheless, Teanne Ewings solidified her #1 ranking by finishing as the top Maine girl in the race.  #2 ranked Olivia Wentworth did not run due to falling ill the week of the race.  Similarly, Samantha Moore of Portland was held out of the meet due to precautionary reasons.  After that, though, we had two huge risers, with Zoe Carroll and Amelia Van Dongen both entering the top 5 after barely being ranked last week.  Carroll previously missed a couple of meet for York but is now clearly at full strength and appears to be a co-favorite with Wentworth for the Class B individual title.  VanDongen had her best race of the year and led the Trojans to the team title.  Solid races from Georgia Moon, Mackenzie Shields, and Maya Boyington lifted them into the rankings.

Laurel Driscoll falls out of the top 3 to #11 after another rough race.  Just like the Southern Maine Classic, she struggled over the final stretches of the course, although this time she made it to the finish.  When she is running well, she is as good as they come, but unfortunately that has not always been the case this year.  Clara White also fell out of the top 10 after finishing 15th. Haley Marston fell to 20th after a bit of a disappointing performance. Maeve Ginevan, Dylan Burmeister, and Maya Sanzone fell out of the rankings.

Week 3 Rankings (Posted 10/3/24)

After her return from injury, it didn’t take long for Samantha Moore to get back into the top five.  She won at Bonny Eagle in a sub 19:00 clocking to show that she will be in the mix for another Class A title.  Allie Schmitt wasn’t too far behind at that race, finishing ahead of Marina Violette. As a result, Schmitt climbs into the top 10 and Violette falls a few spots.  Ewings, Driscoll, Huggett, and Higgins and White all won as expected to remain in the top 10. At the SMAA/WMC crossover meet, there were a number of ranked athletes.  Stark-Chessa took the win there, followed by Barry, Alexander, Ginevan, and Sanzone.  Elliott and Plant went 1-2 at their meet in virtually identical times.  Marston and VanDongen were both beaten, in Marston’s case for the first time this year.  Due to this, both have fallen in the rankings. Burmeister won her meet by a large margin and Zoe Carroll had a strong performance at her meet, too.

Week 2 Rankings (Posted 9/26/24)

The top three remain at the top due to wins at their respective meets.  Others that moved up due to wins were Marston, Higgins, White, and McCourt.  Natalie Johnson and Lucy Huggett were both second place at their meets, but they each lost to a top 2 ranked athlete, and weren’t too far behind. Allie Schmitt moved up a spot due to a strong 3rd at the Manchester Invitational (small school division). Just like many meets last year, Addison Elliott finished less than a second behind teammate Gretchen Plant and she hops back into the rankings.  Dylan Burmeister also got a win in a strong time of 19:37 and as a result is now ranked.

Samantha Moore ran her first cross country meet of 2024 and now is ranked 7th.  Expect her to climb back into the top 5 once she is able to run all out at a meet. The athletes that fell out of the rankings this week were Mackenzie Shields and Madeleine Jones.  Shields was narrowly beaten by Parker Fox this week, but she took a wrong turn in the race so she may have won had she stayed on course, so don’t be surprised if she’s ranked again as soon as next week.  Jones had a fine result at her meet, with those beating her all ranked in our top 12, so she might be back soon, too.

Week 1 Rankings (Posted 9/19/24)

Teanne Ewings remains #1 due to two dominant wins to begin the year. Behind her, there are a number of athletes that have taken big leaps forward.  Yarmouth's Olivia Wentworth has surged to #2 due to her win in the Junior-Senior race at the Southern Maine Classic and her teammate Madeleine Jones joins her in the rankings.  Karen Higgins was the victor of the Freshman-Sophomore race and joins our top ten. Lucy Huggett, Marina Violette, and Allie Schmitt all had notable runs at SMC and surged in the rankings.  Haley Marston is also undefeated thus far and has jumped up to #6.

Falling athletes include Samantha Moore, who has not yet raced due to injury, as well as Soren Stark-Chessa and Hannah Keane, who had sub-par runs at the Southern Maine Classic.  They will look to bounce back in the upcoming meets.  Amelia Van Dongen is another ahtlete that fell, but she typically peaks well at the end of the season so don't be surprised if she is much higher at season's end.

There are many athletes that we are still watching, including three Waynflete athletes (the Alexanders + Lucy Olson), two Freeport athletes (Oshetski and Hall) and two Falmouth athletes (Georgia Moon and Parker Fox).
