Northern Maine Regional Headlines

Both teams (boys and girls) easily won, as expected.  The boys put 5 in the top 15 while the girls put 5 in the top 19.

While she hasn't run as fast as she did last year, Van Dongen easily won the Class B girls title.  She does have a 6th place finish at New Englands to her name, so don't count her out for a top finish at States.

The Cony senior took advantage of a wide open field and a couple of poor performances from other athletes and took the W.  2nd place finisher Elijah Jakubisn of Nokomis was also a bit of a surprise.  They will hope to repeat these performances at next week.

Ruth White runs the 2nd fastest time in state history, and Teanne wasn't far behind, running the 2nd fastest time of her life.  Ruth ran the 7th fastest time of the day regardless of division or gender!  Both athletes would have win the Class B boys race.  Incredible stuff.

#3 ranked Kaleb Colson and his teammate Ren Salisbury lead a 1-2 finish for Sumner, leaving little doubt as to who is expected to win the state title next week.  The real question is: How high can they finish in the combined results?

We had both athletes unranked, but that didn't stop them from taking the top spots and beating some very talented athletes including #12 Maeve Woodruff. Based on the 1-2 finish, Hampden has now inched closer to Camden Hills in the team rankings.

On both the boys side and the girls side, the Windjammers know how to run as a pack.  Both teams had a 1-5 split of less than a minute, leading them to a regional title on the girls side and a runner-up finish on the boys side.

The Oxford Hills star is just a junior, and he has not lost a race since September 1st.  That is 50 days and 7 consecutive wins for Hutchinson.  While he isn't the favorite to win next week, it is certainly a possibility.

The Broncos haven't had the season that they've wanted thus far, but they did have their best performance of the year today.  Miles Shain ran well and they had 3 of the top 7 in Class A.  Hampden will need everything to go right next week if they hope to defend their back-to-back titles.

Lewiston standout (and our #16 ranked) Enzo Giampaolo wasn't able to race today due to injury and as a result his season is over.  The Bangor boys are also done, missing the 5th and final Class A qualifying spot by just 3 points. Other teams with near-misses were the Nokomis girls in Class B, the Foxcroft Academy boys in Class C, and the Mt. Ararat girls in Class A.
