2024 Class C State Meet
Boys Distance Preview
4x800m
Winslow is seeded first in a very impressive 8:22, but they are without Joseph Richard’s who will be focusing on individual events. They won the indoor title but he did anchor for them on that day. His absence opens the door for Sumner, who appear to be running their top athletes with both Kaleb Colson and Ren Salisbury listed on their squad. The only other teams seeded for a sub 9:00 clocking are Winthrop and Orono. Top Winthrop athlete Chris Pottle is just listed as an alternate.
1600m
William Hileman is the top seed and is having an incredible outdoor season after a disappointing fall and winter during. Chris Pottle is seeded just a second behind Hileman and both athletes will be running fresh, so this race appears to be a toss-up. After that, there is a big (12-second) gap back to the rest of the pack. Gage Bruns leads that group with a time of 4:39 and is the most likely athlete to take the bronze.
800m
The 800m is a borderline lock for Kaleb Colson to grab the W. He’s seeded 6 seconds clear of the field and his PR is actually even faster than that. Gage Bruns is seeded second at a time of 2:01. Of note there are 4 freshmen in the fast section, including Dirigo athlete William Morris who is seeded 3rd and Alfie Cognata who is seeded 5th.
3200m
Hileman is the favorite again here, but Pottle and Salisbury are also in the mix for the win in this race. Those three will break away and run well under 10:00. Fourth seed is Braden Rioux, but he and the others are seeded over 30 seconds back of the top trio.
