Kate Morrison 10 20:29
Sylvie Holmes 11 20:59
Alice Anderson 11 21:06
Maia Endicott 12 21:11
2024 Outlook:
The Bulldogs are back! Seriously, this team did not lose any contributing seniors from a team that was top 3 in Class A last year. As a result, they are our preseason favorite to win the state title. Samantha Moore is our Class A #1 runner and Vinkemulder, Chadbourne and Endicott all have experience scoring very highly in big meets. They could sweep the Class A team and individual titles this year.
#2 – Camden Hills Windjammers
Class A #2
Class A North #1
KVAC #1
2023 Results:
Class A North Regional: 1st
Class A State Championships: 2nd

Faye Hildreth 10 19:58
Marguerite Worner 10 20:06
Isabella Anderson 12 20:21
Flynn Layton 10 20:23
Siena Scordino 11 20:38
2024 Outlook:
Camden Hills had a killer freshman class last year, and now they are back as sophomores ready to stake their claim to being the very best in the state. While the Windjammers lack a true #1 runner, they make up for that with a great pack time. To really compete for the state title, they will need to move that pack up another 30 seconds from last year.
#3 – Hampden Academy Broncos
Class A #3
Class A North #2
KVAC #2
2023 Results:
Class A North Regional: 2nd
Class A State Championships: 4th
Combined State Meet Finish: 6th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Addison Elliott 11 19:31
Gretchen Plant 10 19:43
Anleigh Stevens 12 21:09
Natalia Charles 12 21:43
2024 Outlook:
Hampden has an amazing top duo in Addison Elliott and Gretchen Plant. Last year, they often ran together and finished only a second or two apart. Their pack is solid but the Broncos may need a little more out of them to really compete with the top two teams.
#4 – Falmouth Navigators
Class A #2
Class A South #2
SMAA #2
2023 Results:
Class A South Regional: 3rd
Class A State Championships: 5th
Combined State Meet Finish: 8th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Maeve Ginevan 12 20:11
Georgia Moon 10 20:22
Parker Fox 10 21:10
Elise Tardiff 12 21:43
Haley Barrett 12 21:43
Sara Tennent 11 21:47
2024 Outlook:
Falmouth was a deep team last year and this year looks to be no exception. Either Ginevan or Moon could be the top runner for this squad, and the order between the rest of the athletes will likely vary throughout the year as well. Their 4x800m relays were the best in the state this winter and spring, which bodes well for this season. It would require a big jump forward, but Falmouth does have a chance to sneak up on the top teams and win a state title.
#5 – Waynflete Flyers
Class C #1
Class C South #1
WMC #1
2023 Results:
Class C South Regional: 1st
Class C State Championships: 3rd
Combined State Meet Finish: 16th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Grace Alexander 11 19:36
Lucy Olson 11 20:44
Paige Alexander 10 20:59
Skylar Harris 12 22:25
Leah Kramer 12 22:59
2024 Outlook:
The Flyers look to be flying high this season. During track season, the Alexanders and Lucy Olson turned into elite runners who all scored highly at distance events at the state championships. Harris and Kramer provide enough depth to keep the scoring low through five runners. Waynflete also brings in Hana Hirschkorn, wo ran 2:31 for 800m on the track as a freshman.
#6 – Kennebunk Rams
Class A #3
Class A South #3
SMAA #3
2023 Results:
Class A South Regional: 6th
Class A State Championships: 7th

Hannah Keene 12 19:07
Adalyn Clark 11 20:56
Makayla Drew 11 21:06
Norah McLeod 12 21:43
Mia Provencher 10 22:45
2024 Outlook:
The Rams had a solid season in 2023 but 2024 should be much better. Hannah Keane broke out into one of the state’s best last year and will lead the way yet again. Clark and Drew could approach 20:00 and McLeod and Provencher should round out the scoring.
#7 – Orono Red Riots
Class C #2
Class C North #1
PVC #1
2023 Results:
Class C North Regional: 1st
Class C State Championships: 1st
Combined State Meet Finish: 5th

Clara White 11 19:19
Maya Boyington 11 19:41
Tilly Puleo 11 21:22
Ruby Beane 10 22:17
2024 Outlook:
Orono is a perennial contender for the Class C title and this year is no exception. White and Boyington will score in the single digits while Puleo and Beane are solid scoring options. The Red Riots need to find a capable 5th runner. If so, they could be the one’s raising the trophy yet again.
#8 – Freeport Falcons
Class B #1
Class B South #1
WMC #2
2023 Results:
Class B South Regional: 3rd
Class B State Championships: 5th
Combined State Meet Finish: 11th

Lucy Huggett 11 19:29
Lilah Hall 11 20:54
Ella Oshetski 10 20:58
Josie Spaulding 12 21:49
Bela Bukaty 10 22:40
2024 Outlook:
The Falcons were just 5th in Class B a year ago but enter 2024 as our favorite to win the state title. Lucy Huggett is one of our preseason ranked athletes and we even considered Lilah Hall for an individual ranking after her strong track season. Oshetski, Spaulding, and Bukaty round out a strong top 5.
#9 – Houlton/GHCA
Class C #3
Class C North #2
PVC #2
2023 Results:
Class C North Regional: 2nd
Class C State Championships: 2nd
Combined State Meet Finish: 12th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Teanne Ewings 12 17:15
Natalie Johnson 12 19:06
Katie McQuarrie 12 22:54
Dalayna Mincey 10 23:19
Andrea Ross 11 23:28
2024 Outlook:
According to our individual rankings, Houlton has the best 1-2 punch in the state. Teanne Ewings is finally the Class C favorite after the graduation of Ruth White, and she will be looking to break the records that Ruth set last year. Natalie Johnson, too, could be rewriting the record books. There’s a huge gap behind them though, which will likely put the state title out of reach.
#10 – Greely Rangers
Class B #2
Class B South #2
WMC #3
2023 Results:
Class B South Regional: 5th
Class B State Championships: 2nd
Combined State Meet Finish: 7th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Rowan Barry 11 19:30
Sarah Weisz 11 20:45
Emma Stein 11 21:03
Evelyn LaCasse 10 22:15
2024 Outlook:
Greely has all of the makings of a strong team in 2024. Rowan Barry is a great #1 runner and the top two returners behind her could also threaten the 20 minute barrier. Evelyn LaCasse had a great freshman year and will look to close the gap to Weisz and Stein.
#11 – Mt. Desert Island Trojans
Class B #3
Class B North #1
PVC #3
2023 Results:
Class B North Regional: 1st
Class B State Championships: 6th
Combined State Meet Finish: 13th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Amelia Vandongen 12 18:46
Seneca Haney 11 21:35
Hope LeMoine 12 21:59
Sage Sartin 10 22:01
Fiona St. Germain 12 22:27
2024 Outlook:
Mount Desert Island is usually the class of the Class B North, and this year should be no exception. Amelia Vandongen is a threat to win any race she runs, whether it is a sprint or a 5K. Behind her, the Trojans will look to pack up and get as many girls close to 21:00 as possible.
#12 – York Wildcats
Class B #4
Class B South #3
WMC #4
2023 Results:
Class B South Regional: 1st
Class B State Championships: 1st
Combined State Meet Finish: 3rd
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Madelyn Hutchins 11 19:50
Karianna Hultstrom 11 20:40
Madelyn Herman 11 21:41
Audrey Drennan 12 22:14
Katelin Bloomer 10 22:28
2024 Outlook:
York is in a tough spot in 2024, having graduated an individual state champion as well as some other very talented athletes. Despite this, the Wildcats are still set up to succeed, with Hutchins already being under 20:00 and those behind her sporting respectable personal bests, too. While defending the title may be out of reach, a top 3 finish is certainly a possibility.
#13 – Morse Shipbuilders
Class B #5
Class B South #4
KVAC #3
2023 Results:
Class B South Regional: 7th
Class B State Championships: 8th
Combined State Meet Finish: 19th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Shealyn Brochu 12 19:12
Zoe Avery 12 21:36
Kobe Sherwood 11 22:20
Claire Clifford 12 23:28
2024 Outlook:
The Shipbuilders enter 2024 looking likely to improve upon last year’s performances. Shealyn Brochu is a stellar #1 runner that has incredible range, from 60 seconds in the quarter mile to close to 19 flat for 5K. Avery and Sherwood provide good depth behind her. Clifford will lead a solid pack for Morse that should close out the scoring at around 23 minutes.
#14 – Lincoln Academy Eagles
Class B #6
Class B South #5
KVAC #4
2023 Results:
Class B South Regional: 2nd
Class B State Championships: 3rd
Combined State Meet Finish: 9th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Dylan Burmeister 12 19:47
Mercy Buchwalder 11 21:43
Chloe Anderson 10 22:04
Tessa McNamara 12 23:24
2024 Outlook:
The Eagles had a great year in 2023, finishing runner-up at the regional and taking 3rd at the State meet. Matching those performances will be a tough ask this year, but if all goes right it isn’t completely out of the question. Lincoln is in good shape through one runner, as Dylan Burmeister is a preseason ranked individual for us. Anderson approached 22 flat as a freshman and could be an X-factor for this team. She will look to crack 21:00 along with Mercy Buchwalder.
#15 – Cheverus Stags
Class A #6
Class A South #4
SMAA #4
2023 Results:
Class A South Regional: 5th
Class A State Championships: 8th
Combined State Meet Finish: 18th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Allie Schmitt 10 20:00
Anica Hickey 10 22:12
Meg Kingsley 11 22:13
Grace Beeler 11 22:38
Brooke Stratos 10 23:23
2024 Outlook:
Cheverus had a very solid year in 2023 but have potential to be even better in 2024. Allie Schmitt is a good frontrunner who is coming off of a great freshman year. Anica Hickey missed most of the season due to injury but was able to compete well in the postseason and will look to improve during her sophomore campaign. Kingsley, Beeler, and Stratos form the rest of the core of returners that contributed at the varsity level last year, but others will likely contribute, too. The exciting thing for this team is that no seniors are on the roster so this group will remain intact in 2025.
#16 – Bonny Eagle Scots
Class A #7
Class A South #5
SMAA #5
2023 Results:
Class A South Regional: 1st
Class A State Championships: 1st
Combined State Meet Finish: 1st
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Marina Violette 11 19:10
Bailey Shaw 11 20:21
2024 Outlook:
Bonny Eagle has won the last 4 state titles and 9 of the last 11. Unless a real shocker occurs in 2024, that trend will end. Bonny Eagle graduated a bunch of seniors and bring back only 2 runners with varsity experience. Those two returners are very strong, but the Scots will need to develop some new contributors. If history is any indicator, they should be able to do so.
#17 – Thornton Academy Trojans
Class A #8
Class A South #6
SMAA #6
2023 Results:
Class A South Regional: 9th
Class A State Championships: Did Not Qualify
Combined State Meet Finish: Did Not Qualify
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Mackenzie Shields 10 20:08
Anna Moulton 11 21:50
Grace Lambert 12 22:12
Olivia Smart 12 23:27
Elodie Falardeau 11 23:37
2024 Outlook:
Thornton Academy showed some promise last year, but fell just short of advancing out of the tough Class A South regional. Mackenzie Shields had a very strong freshman campaign and should lead the team yet again this year. Anna Moulton did advance individually to the state meet as well and will bring that experience to 2024. If they can get their top 5 under 23:00, the Trojans should advance back to the state meet this year.
#18 – Marshwood Hawks
Class A #9
Class A South #7
SMAA #7
2023 Results:
Class A South Regional: 4th
Class A State Championships: 9th
Combined State Meet Finish: 20th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Maya Sanzone 11 20:27
Ava Sanzone 11 21:46
Laura Horvath 12 22:36
Brynn Butler 12 22:46
Gracelynn Childress 10 23:09
Emily Keith 10 23:19
2024 Outlook:
The Hawks have been a strong team year in and year out over the recent past, and they will look to continue that trend this year. The Sanzone twins pack a strong 1-2 punch, with Maya in particular coming off of a stellar sophomore year. The roster has some nice senior leadership in the scoring 5 and two athletes that ran strong freshman times that will look to improve throughout their second year.
#19 – Yarmouth Clippers
Class B #7
Class B South #6
WMC #5
2023 Results:
Class B South Regional: 6th
Class B State Championships: 7th
Combined State Meet Finish: 15th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Olivia Wentworth 11 20:45
Eleanor Weyenberg 10 21:16
Gracie Olson 10 23:23
Emaline Hill 12 23:39
Rose Carroll 11 23:42
Poloma Kitchens 12 23:55
Abbey Hamilton 10 23:57
2024 Outlook:
Yarmouth always has a large team and depth will once again be a strength for this team. They had 13 underclassmen last year that ran under 25 minutes. They also should have a great low stick. Olivia Wentworth only ran a few cross country meets last year but should be a full time runner this year, and if so, she could be a Class B title contender after finishing 2nd in the 3200 this spring. I won’t be shocked if they exceed this projected finish.
#20 – Cape Elizabeth Capers
Class B #8
Class B South #7
WMC #6
2023 Results:
Class B South Regional: 4th
Class B State Championships: 4th
Combined State Meet Finish: 10th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Hannah Frothingham 11 20:29
Addie Mazzeo 11 22:09
Addison Young 11 22:32
Jane Curtis 12 22:41
2024 Outlook:
Cape Elizabeth is another program that has had a lot of success over the years. This year, they will need to run their best to even qualify for the state meet. Frothingham should be a solid frontrunner who will keep the scoring low for the Capers. If the pack behind her can approach 22:00, the Capers will have a successful season.
#21 – Bangor Rams
Class A #10
Class A North #3
KVAC #5
2023 Results:
Class A North Regional: 3rd
Class A State Championships: 6th
Combined State Meet Finish: 14th
Notable Returning Runners: (Based on Personal Bests)
Jenna Elkadi 12 22:11
Kaliyah Saunders 11 22:11
Abigail Bergmark 12 22:49
Sofie Rueter 12 22:50
Alexis Blue 11 23:15
Ellee Robicheau 10 23:17
Ava Pelkey 11 23:20
2024 Outlook:
Bangor had a very successful season in 2023, but they have graduated frontrunner Katie McCarthy as well as some other contributing seniors. They leave behind a pack of athletes that all run solid times, but the Rams will need a couple of runners to break out and approach 21:00 to compete with the best teams in the state. Based on their 800m success during the spring, this very well could be the case.
