2024 Class C State Meet

Girls Distance Preview

4x800m

While there is a lot of talent in class C, most of the top girls are being held out of the relay to focus on individual events. Cross country champs Orono are holding out both White sisters and Houlton is not running a relay at all.  That leaves Winslow and NYA as favorites in this event. Winslow is the only team listed under 11:00. Both of those teams are made up of underclassmen, so times could improve in years to come.

1600m

This race consists of two New England champions. Teanne Ewings is on a tear, having run 4:57 for the full mile at a race in Massachusetts and being undefeated over that distance in Maine throughout this winter and spring.  Ruth White is seeded second and although the 1600m is not her best event, she has still broken 5:00 in her career, so she should not be counted out.  Soren Stark-Chessa is seeded third, and then you have a pack of seven ladies all seeded in the 5:30s that will be fighting for a top 5 finish.

800m

The top two seeds are Soren Stark-Chessa and Natalie Johnson, who are seeded 8 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.  The 800m will be Johnson’s first event of the day and Stark-Chessa’s third, so Natalie will be hoping her fresh legs can led her to a title.  Behind them is a freshman Nina Mitchell from Orono and then Haley Williams from Winthrop.  Those two will be fighting for the bronze.

3200m

Everyone decided to enter the 3200m to end the meet! All nineteen athletes in this event are doubling (or tripling or quadrupling) back from other events.  It will likely come down to one final battle of White v. Ewings.  Each is seeded more than a minute ahead of the rest of the field. Right now, Ruth White has the best time of the year but Ewings has won 2 of 3 matchups between the two.  Behind them Natalie Johnson is the only sub 12:00 seed but Stark-Chessa, Clara White, and Leanne Ross could all play a factor, too.
